Becca works as a Quality Assessor at Ascensos. Her day typically involves a combination of quality analysis, reporting and stakeholder feedback. For Becca working from home has some clear advantages.
She says, “I 100% love working from home! It suits my personal circumstances and means I can spend more quality time with my family. I also have the added luxury of spending my usual 90-minute round-journey commute on other activities. So, replacing my daily bus journey with a morning Yoga session, evening walk or even just spending time with my Dad is a bonus for me.
We’ve had new colleagues joining the Quality Team recently, and although I’m not a fan of too many Zoom calls, the opportunity to have the clarity of regular 1-2-1 meetings makes it easier to build good working relationships and receive support whenever I need it.
I do find I can concentrate on my daily tasks better, and while I miss seeing all my friends and colleagues from our Motherwell site, I look forward to weekly ‘lunch and laugh’ Zoom sessions with my immediate team”.
Previously, a key member of our Client Success Team, Matthew, has since been promoted to Digital Transformation Manager within our Technology Unit.
Having recently celebrated his six-year tenure with Ascensos, working from home for Matthew has been a new experience. And one which required him to proactively embrace a more flexible approach to his working day.
Matthew says, “I am definitely more productive working from home and find it easier to complete tasks that require a great deal of attention. Initially, I found it difficult to switch off and felt a blurring of the boundary between my work-life balance, which saw me continuing to work when I usually would’ve been commuting.
After taking on board advice from my peers, I quickly learned to adapt to ‘the new norm’ and have since created a dedicated home working environment to ensure I can close the door on my day at work. It does require an aspect of discipline, but it’s also essential to take breaks and inject your day with some sociability. So now I factor in a mid-afternoon walk during my lunch, for some off-screen time and arrange video coffee break ‘chats’ to keep connected with my colleagues”.
